Abstract

The short story “Hierbas aromáticas” by Ángel Bonomini is briefly analyzed. The analysis takes as base some reflections on fantastic literature and Rosemary Jackson’s concept of the paraxial region, to explain an intermediate space that opens up within the story, where different dimensions converge dream and wakefulness, life and death, truth and fiction. To construct this space, the author employs various metafictional devices and overlapping diegetic levels that reveal the story’s artificiality. As a counterpoint, the lovers who star in the narrative embody a dimension that transcends the workings of literary mechanisms and any rational explanation.

Estudió la Licenciatura en Letras Españolas y la Maestría en Literatura Hispanoamericana en la Universidad de Guanajuato. Actualmente cursa el Doctorado en Humanidades- Línea de Teoría Literaria en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). Sus líneas de investigación son: poética, literatura argentina y mexicana, y pensamiento literario. Ha participado como ponente en numerosos congresos nacionales y ha publicado artículos académicos y capítulos de libros como “La belleza incómoda”, en Otros modos de ver: el microcosmos literario de Guadalupe Nettel (Universidad de Guanajuato, 2020).
