This essay explores the crucial role of experience in archaeological interpretation and its relevance in the scientific inquiry of the past. I emphasize the detailed analysis of this notion, often overlooked in philosophical discussions about archaeological knowledge. The main thesis contends that experience, conceived as an action progressing through stages of controlled constitutive acts, plays a fundamental role. The central argument distinguishes experience according to Dewey's logic of empirical inquiry from pragmatic perspectives in archaeology. I underscore the need to consider archaeological inquiry as a dynamic and controlled activity in constant growth. I present arguments based on Dewey's thought, highlighting the importance of returning to classical pragmatism to gain a deeper understanding of the role of experience in archaeological inquiry and its contribution to the understanding of the past.
