Abstract

In the present work, we analyze the novel Un verdor terrible (2020) by Benjamín Labatut as a text that dialogues with the representations around the Anthropocene. From this geological and planetary context, we understand the monstrosity of scientists and science in terms of Gothic literature. The monstrosity of science is produced by the rupture of the frameworks of representation, which builds an anamorphic aesthetic close to the ways in which art can annihilate the subject of representation according to psychoanalysis. We weave these two threads, Anthropocene and Gothicity, to point out the intrusion and insurgency of Gaia within the novel as a destabilizing factor of affections.
