Myth and violence: an approach to the Ecuadorian novel Siete lunas y siete serpientes

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the mythical substratum present in a novel born in this context, Siete lunas y siete serpientes (1970), by the Ecuadorian writer Demetrio Aguilera-Malta. The importance that myth acquires in this novel is the subject of the present study. The different myths and popular beliefs inserted in Malti's narrative are not a mere cumulative succession of them, but are a fundamental part of the significance of the whole work as a whole.

Graduado en Lengua Española y sus Literaturas por la Univesidad de Oviedo (España). Ha realizado diversos estudios y trabajos sobre literatura, prestando especial atención a la producción literaria ecuatoriana del siglo XX y XXI. También ha enfocado sus líneas hacia el uso de la literatura en el aprendizaje de español como lengua extranjera.
