Abstract

Myths tell so much about human condition that they are told on once and again through history. However, in that process they do not remain unchanged. On the contrary, as they are being told, some traits of the immediate historic context are introduced in them, producing different versions. Such is the case of the myth of Antigone. In this paper I would like to pay close attention to Griselda Gambaro’s Antígona furiosa and Barbara Colio’s Usted está aquí in order to see how this Latin-American playwrights, based upon the ancient myth, build different dramatic texts in which the myth adopts a new and meaningful dimension according to the new sociopolitical circumstances, but retaining some of its essential characteristics such as the presence of the hero.

Author Biography

Claudia Gidi, Universidad Veracruzana

Doctora en Letras por la unam, es investigadora del Instituto de Investigaciones Lingüístico-Literarias en la Universidad Veracruzana y participa en el proyecto de investigación Manifestaciones de la risa en la literatura hispanoamericana, avalado por el Conacyt. Es autora de Tragedia, risa y desencanto en el teatro mexicano contemporáneo (Paso de Gato / Universidad Veracruzana, 2016) y Juegos de absurdo y risa en el drama (Ediciones Sin Nombre / Universidad de Sonora, 2012); bajo su coordinación han aparecido dos libros colectivos: Las mujeres y la dramaturgia mexicana del siglo xx, con Jacqueline Bixler, y La risa, luces y sombras. Estudios de poética, con Martha Elena Munguía Zatarain.

Sus líneas de investigación son:el drama y la risa como fenómeno artístico en la literatura hispanoamericana.
