The story “La llovizna” (1952), by Juan de la Cabada, takes to the extreme the possibilities of unfolding the narrative voice in first-person enunciation; as well as the possibilities of naming the intimate from fiction. The narrator, after brief reluctance, decides to tell a story: one Sunday night, in the middle of the drizzle, he gives a ride to some Indians who are coming from burying a little girl; since then, the drizzle reminds him of his own dead daughter. Since the narrator splits into an I-narrator and an I-character, their relationship becomes a meta-story, while, by telling the universal – the death of another girl –, he manages to tell the intimate – the death of his daughter. Based on narratological notions, the implications of the use of autodiegesis in the perception of fiction itself are analyzed here.
