Abstract

This essay shows the influence of Guy Debord´s work on Giorgio Agamben´s thought, in particular, regarding one of the central problems of his thought, that is, the difference between “image” and “gesture”. To show this, I will used three moments of his work, starting with “Glosas to the Comments of the Society of the spectacle” written in 1993 to go further to “The Kingdom and the Glory” of 2007 and ending in “The Use of the Bodies” of 2014. In these three moments we could find three references to Debord that, nevertheless, will lead Agamben to the question of the “gesture” or, asi it is known, the problema of the “form-of-life”.

Rodrigo Karmy, Universidad de Chile

Doctor en Filosofía, Universidad de Chile. Profesor e Investigador del Centro de Estudios Árabes y del Departamento de Filosofía de la Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades de la Universidad de Chile. En su trabajo se entrelazan el pensamiento contemporáneo con el pensamiento medieval centrándose en la cuestión de la imaginación, en cuyo problema está desarrollando dos investigaciones en torno al pensamiento de Averroes y el acontecimiento de las revueltas árabes del 2010. Ha impartido seminarios en la Universidad San Carlos, Guatemala (2010), Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina (2017), Universidad de Zaragoza, España (2018). Entre sus proyectos de investigación se encuentran: Fondecyt Iniciación: Angelología islámica. Elementos para pensar la gubernamentalidad en el islam (2011-2013) y el Proyecto de Iniciativa Bicentenario “Núcleo Transdisciplinar de Estudios en Gubernamentalidad” del cual fue director (2015-2016). Es columnista del Diario Digital El Desconcierto/ La Voz de los que sobran, Palabra Pública, Universidad de Chile. Actualmente es Director de Investigación de la Dirección de Investigación de la Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades de la Universidad de Chile. Sus últimos libros publicados son: Intifada. una topología de la imaginación popular (Metales Pesados, 2020); El porvenir se hereda: fragmentos de un Chile sublevado (Sangría, 2019), y Fragmento de Chile (Editorial Doble, 2019).
