This work analyzes the book Santa María del Circo (1998) by David Toscana to establish the relationship between space and the inversion or indecisive of roles, hierarchies and sexual roles. Santa María del Circo can be considered a between-place according to Olalla Castro or an interstice or a liminal place according to Homi K. Bhabha. This non-space becomes a territory where what Roland Barthes called common sense is transgressed and allows the expansion of the borders of culture.
We will identify the investment, banalization and trivialization strategies that break with the borders of culture or common sense, since what adjust and specifies social behaviors is disrupted to the degree of being inverted or entering into contradiction to generate a dynamic society that expands the borders and accept new visions of the world
