Notes of poetic narrative. Rise and decline of the Mexican historical novel in the nineteenth century

Abstract

The historical novel was the dominant literary genre of Mexican literature between 1836 and 1870, conditioned by the historical circumstance as much as by the conception of the literary during the time. After the pacification and consolidation of Mexico from the positivist order and progress developed by the Restored republic (1967-1976) and the porfiriato (1876-1911), the conception and function of the history and the historical novel in Mexico were rethought and began its process of decline. The aim of this work is precisely to describe and interrelate some of the different aspects that marked the flourishing and decline of the historical novel in the nineteenth century Mexican literary tradition, from a semiotic and integral perspective that seeks to explain dynamically at least the most outstanding elements who participated in the process.
