This article seeks to reflect on some subjects, members of the nation imagined by Joaquín Edwards Bello, circulating in his novel El roto (1920). All of them minority subjects, invisible and infamous, but nevertheless have their share of participation in the development and momentum of the young Chilean nation, in shaping the future project and in the incorporation of alternative knowledge to the plurality of voices, foundation of the progressivism in the reflexive line of José Victorino Lastarria and his call for national unity in pursuit of democratic perfection.References
