Revisar la perspectiva dominante acerca de los mitos constitutivos de la hispanidad en la península ibérica y la periodización eurocéntrica de la historia civilizatoria de América Latina es una tarea que está por hacer. Supone asumir que los momentos culminantes de las culturas que atravesaron los territorios peninsulares y continentales no coinciden con las clasi!caciones canónicas de una Edad de Oro y sus sombras coloniales, y mucho menos con su homologación con las expresiones !losó!cas, cientí!cas o artísticas del Renacimiento europeo. Américo Castro puso de mani!esto que los renacimientos cientí!cos y artísticos de las culturas ibéricas coinciden más bien con el auge del Islam y la cultura judía en la España árabe de los siglos XII y XIII y termina con la liquidación del reino islámico de Granada.
