Este artículo contextualiza y proporciona características generales de la obra literaria del escritor guanajuatense de filiación modernista Rubén M. Campos. La contextualización se realiza a partir del seguimiento de la evolución del modernismo en tres momentos: sus inicios, con Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera como figura central y hombre fundador de la Revista Azul, publicación en la que se engendra el segundo momento, el decadentismo, con la Revista Moderna y José Juan Tablada al frente de ésta. El decadentismo fue una reacción contra la modernidad, vertido en la constante búsqueda del poeta por la renovación creativa, desarrollada, de preferencia, en la atmósfera de la bohemia. Es aquí donde se desenvuelve la figura de Rubén M. Campos, tópico que el artículo explora y describe a profundidad.
