About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Valenciana is a biannual journal, published in both printed and electronic version. Each issue consists of original contributions which address new approaches, debates and reflections around literature, with special emphasis in Spanish American studies, as well as classic, modern and contemporary philosophy. Interpretations and analysis are strictly supported by theoretical and conceptual frameworks.

The journal is aimed at specialized readers and national and foreign researchers; those who contribute to generate knowledge in the literature and philosophy fields.

The journal includes three sections: a miscellaneous section with articles and research papers about diverse subjects, a dossier with articles written by express invitation from the editors, and book reviews.

All article submissions are put through review by two anonymous specialists under the double-blind peer review. The final result of the review process is notified to the author within the term of ninety business days after the call closure date.

Valenciana is edited and distributed by the Universidad de Guanajuato through the Departamento de Filosofía y Letras Hispánicas of the División de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades.

Valenciana has Cross Reference DOI official registration.

Peer Review Process

Review guidelines

All contributions will be initially assessed by the editorial committee in order to validate the suitability for publication in the journal. The next step is the academic review, which operates under the blind peer review system:

  1. Articles are sent to a minimum of two independent reviewers with proven expertise in the same disciplinary and thematic area as the article, in order to assess its scientific quality. The identities of authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each part and reviewers must belong to a different institution than the author's. The reviewers have the responsibility to analyze the academic, theoretical and methodological importance of the article.
  2. Reviewers are asked to fill a report about the importance and academic quality of the article and, consequently, make a recommendation about the acceptance or rejection for publication. In case of discrepancy in the recommendation, a third expert will be in charge of settling the result.
  3. According to recommendations from reviewers, Valenciana’s editorial board will choose one of this options for the article:
  • Suggest its publication without changes.
  • Suggest its publication with minor changes; a second revision is not needed.
  • Its publication is conditioned to major corrections.
  • Refuse its publication.
  1. The publication of an article requires, at least, two out of three positive reviews.
  2. The editors guarantee that all the reviews contain solid arguments to support the final editorial decision.
  3. The result derived from the academic review process will be categorical in all cases.
  4. In case reviewers suggest a revision of the article, the author has a term of fifteen business days to deliver a new version of it.
  5. Once the article is received by the reviewers, they have three weeks to deliver the review.
  6. The final result of the reviewing process will be notified to the author in a term of ninety business days after the call closure date.
  7. Accepted articles start the edition process (style revision, markup and metadata, layout) to be included in the issue appointed by the editorial direction.
  8. Once the editorial process is over, the article’s preliminary version will be sent to the author for one last review and final approval. The author has a term of three business days to give his approval; if commentaries are not sent in this term, the editorial committee will assume the approval is given.
